Eminem partners with Nike to release new Jordans inspired by his new book

To commemorate Eminem's new book "The Way I Am," the rap star has teamed up with Nike's Jordan Brand for a collaboration on a limited edition jordan shoe. The shoes will be called "The Way I Am" Air Jordan 2, and feature handwritten lyrics from Eminem's songs on the shoe's ankle collar and toe trim. The package will also include a limited edition "The Way I Am" T-shirt.

There will be only 313 pairs, the area code for Eminem's hometown, Detroit, MI, and only be available for purchase at the official Jordan Brand “Flight Club”: www.airjordanflightclub.com. To receive an invitation code text "Flight Club" to 23623. The retail price of "The Way I Am: Air Jordan 2" has yet to be determined.

Proceeds from the shoe will go towards Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers Foundation, an organization primarily dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth in the state of Michigan.

This is the second time Eminem and Jordan Brand have collaborated. The first Eminem Jordan was the Air Jordan 4 “Blueberry” but that was only available as a promotional item and for contest winners of his Encore album. Eminem's representative Paul Rosenberg said, "The Jordan 2 is Marshall's favorite Air Jordan sneaker, so he was super excited to get to be able to do another collaboration with his favorite sneaker brand."

Eminem's "The Way I Am" book is available from Penguin/Dutton at Amazon.com and local bookstores.

Kanye and Rihanna caught cuddling and kissing?

According to star magazine the two superstars were recently spotted together working on more than just a collaboration. Here's their report:

The Barbadian beauty was spotted cuddling Kanye West backstage at a T.I. concert at the Key Club in Hollywood on Oct. 3.

"Rihanna and Kanye hung out together after they performed their songs," says an insider. "Rihanna was sitting on Kanye's lap, singing along to the music. Before long, the two were full-on kissing each other."

Adds the source, "People were shocked. After a while, Rihanna must have realized people were watching, because she had her security escort her back to the dressing room."

Eminem releases new book, new track & details of new album

Eminem, who was recently named the "Greatest Rapper Alive" by Vibe magazine readers, is back with a new book, a new track and details about his new album. The multi-platinum, Grammy award winning rapper set the record straight in an interview with DJ Kay Slay and Angela Yee, on his satellite radio station station Shade 45.

Em announced that the official title of the album will be "Relapse." “There’s a lot of fake albums and a lot of bulls--t album titles floating around out there,” Eminem said. “I just want to tell everybody the real album title is Relapse.” He says 50 Cent's "Before I Self Destruct" will drop first, followed up by his "Relapse", then Dr.Dre's "Detox". Before I Self Destruct will drop on December 9th, but there's still no release date set for Relapse or Detox. Em also stated that Dre produced most of his new album because he wanted to concentrate on the lyrics, and other than 50 Cent he still has no other collaborations or guest features on the album, but the album is not complete yet. The Detroit rapper unveiled a new track called "I'm Having a Relapse," during the interview.

Eminem's new book, "The Way I Am," hit stores this week.

Game's Sister Shot in Driveby

Game's sister ok after being victim of driveby in Compton

Game's sister is doing well after being shot earlier this week. Shemani Taylor, also known by her rap moniker B-Fly, was the victim of a driveby shooting in front of her house in Compton last Tuesday (10/14). Fortunately, the 18 year old was not seriously injured and was released from the hospital the same day.

No official statement has been released from The Game or his sister, B-Fly, but she posted this message on her MySpace page:

Common talks to Ad Age about his deal with Microsoft & the history of ads & Hip Hop

There was a time when a rapper's endorsement deals were seen as a form of selling out. In fact that was one of the criticisms of MC Hammer, many felt that through his endorsement deals he was a "sell out." Much as change since those early days. Now every rapper is actively pursuing all the endorsement and sponsorship deals possible. Hip Hop artists today flaunt their many endorsement deals and, it seems, that a rapper without a long list of deals on his resume is considered a failure. In an interview with Ad Age magazine, Common talks about his own deal with Microsoft and what he feels was the pivotal campaign that changed the perception of endorsement deals and Hip Hop.

Excerpt of Ad Age's article on Common:

The Chicago native took a moment away from the tour bus to speak with Ad Age about how hip-hop musicians and marketers have come together, and why he's fine with integrating an MP3 player into his new Hype Williams-directed music video.

M&V: I saw the video for "Universal Mind Control," and I almost missed the Zune that appeared in the first five seconds.

Common: The video, or any visual, is very important to me, and for me to be open to showing a product in my video means a lot, because it's a representation of me. With anything I associate myself with, I think, "Is it gonna help or bring me down?" The Zune is something that I've been confident about associating myself with, because I think it's got a fly presentation to it. It is truly about music lovers, for me.

M&V: What persuaded you to work with Microsoft?

Common: Their tradition. ... I know that Microsoft has been around for 20 years, they established themselves in the mid-'80s, and since then they've progressed. Microsoft is classy, it's a timeless brand, and it means something to the world, internationally, and I felt like that's the direction of what I want Common to be, to be honest. I want to be timeless, I want to be international, and those are the things I feel like I'm working toward now. I was able to team up with them for some of those reasons. Like I said, I liked creatively where they wanted to go. Actually Microsoft and I are about to do a line of T-shirts coming out in November. I'm designing them.

M&V: Do you feel like Microsoft has similar goals to you?

Common: Yeah, definitely. Because I listen to what they want, and they want to touch down with the community and they want to touch the world. And they also obviously want to hit certain audiences that are hip and cool. So yeah, we've got certainly have similar goals. And Bill Gates is a philanthropist and does good things in the world. There's nothing wrong with making money, but you definitely want to be able to give back, and I see the head of their company giving back, so from that point right there, the head is giving back to the people, so that automatically can tie him in with me and make him alright with me and make the company alright with me.

M&V: You've been rapping now for a couple decades. How do you think the hip-hip community's attitude toward brand partnerships has changed since you started?

Common: Before, it used to be, "Oh man, you don't mess with corporations." I mean, you know corporations; they just represented the evils of America at a certain point. They represented capitalism and the exploitation of a lot of people. And hip-hop is so rooted in culture that it's based on a love for art, and art and corporations didn't seem like they mixed, but I think the Sprite commercials [from the mid-'90s] are what started turning it around for a lot of people. They'd go out and get Grand Puba, CL Smooth, Afrika Bambaataa. I remember I knew one of the guys who used to write those commercials, and he was a pure hip-hop dude.

I think more hip-hop artists became open with more people in corporations when the corporations really started to understand the music and respected the artists. So corporations could go out and get [KRS-One], and not just get the popular person, the person of the day.

M&V: As in people who have deeper connections with fans.

Common: A deep connection and a true following.

M&V: So whose attitudes have changed more: rappers or corporations?

Common: I think the rappers' attitudes changed because the corporations, some of them really had a respect for true artists and they knew what they were talking about and they presented things that made sense for the artist. And also artists realized that we have to make a living too, and if it's something that's gonna go well with what I do, then why not do it, 'cause these corporations are making money off it. If I mention something in a rap, they're making money off it anyway, so why shouldn't I get a piece of it?

No new beef between Jay Z & Fat Joe or DJ Khaled

Last week Hot 97's DJ Kay Slay debuted a new track with Jay Z and Uncle Murda over a Brand Nubian sample. The record instantly created a buzz because of Jay Z's lyrics going at Fat Joe.

Jay Z's verse:

“Gangsta, Gangsta, how you wanna do this? I clap n—as down for yappin’ all foolish, ain’t no stopping this Roc-a-fella movement. The name is Jay Guevera, homie, who are you? and, if your off-beat DJ, anything he play sound familiar? I’ll wait ’til Pharell say, “Play ‘em.”

Now I’mma have to diss you, Joe. You can get a smack for that, matter fact, the gats will blow….your toy squad will get squashed, Boy–yard dee, you’re lost in the sauce partly because your boss ain’t a leader. He’s a follower. No, I’m not coppin’ ya album or your single, most likely you’ll go copper…”

The track had everyone questioning what could've provoked Jay Z's verse? Jay Z and Fat Joe had some heated rivalry back in the days. The beef resulted in a few records going back and forth and someone getting a champagne bottle busted over their head at a NY club, but that was years ago and it seemed like their beef, although never squashed, was over. So what could have provoked this from Hov who hasn't been responding to brazen taunts from Game, Jim Jones and others and he just did an interview with DJ Khaled on the radio, so why would he go at the DJ now?

LISTEN: Jay Z feat Uncle Murda - He Asked For It

Well thanks to Miss Info we now know there's no new beef between the two New York MCs. The verse is a 5 to 7 year old freestyle that Jay Z recorded during the days of the aforementioned beef that somehow resurfaced with Uncle Murda's verse on it.

Just Blaze told Miss Info:

“So for some reason people think this “new” Jay/Uncle Murda thing is a Fat Joe Khaled dis. It’s not. It’s also like 8000 years old and somehow dude got his hands on it and put a verse on it. Now that I recall, it’s Blueprint 2 era..I was going to use this verse for the S.Carter Remix CD but we couldn’t get the Pro Tools in time. Don’t fall for the okeydoke.”

DJ Khaled also addressed the verse:

“I heard about it, and what’s so crazy is that, I was told it’s a five year old verse and that it wasn’t real…Jay-Z is a great friend of mine and I plan to work with him in the future; musically and entrepreneur style, too.”

Fat Joe’s statement on the resurfaced Jay-Z verse:

“I have no beef whatsoever with Jay-Z. In fact, we share a common goal…helping to get Barack Obama elected on Nov. 4th.”

T.I. laughs off Jim Jones diss

"Swagger Like Us" has spawned countless freestyles from other rappers who felt the should've been included in the classic track. But one person who seems to have really taken offense is Jim Jones.

In a recent interview with Complex magazines the Dipset capo said:

“I think it was deliberate. I really do think it was deliberate; maybe in my sick twisted mind I’m a little crazy. People know who set the precedent as far as fashion in this industry and people know who damn near changed the world as far as fashion. You look at people; they went from the urban world of clothing, back when Rocawear and Sean John was cool. And then in the past 5 years I stepped in and gave them a taste of what rock and roll looks like from my side. I guess people would say from an urban side, and it seemed to catch on like wildfire, to the point that people was going to stores and asking for that 'Jim Jones look'.

Jones speaks about recording his own version of "Swagger Like Us":

"Me and Juelz had Chink do our own beat, I have Weezy’s verse in my inbox right now and we kept the hook of that song because it was a sample. So we’re going to put that as a bonus track on the album, and put it to the streets. “No one on the corner got swag like you, we don’t Rocawear, that’s for fags like you.” [Laughs.]

Jim Jones disses T.I. claiming he has no swag:

"I don’t feel like he possesses any swag. Not like that. It’s fabricated. They’re watching other people, then they try and do it. You know people that dress like T.I.? You know people that go out and say 'let me get a T.I. outfit' or do you know people who say 'yo, you’re looking like Jim Jones?' Which one? Let me hear it! When the bitches want to fuck you and the niggas want be like you, who got the swag? Niggas with money and fame always going to look like they doing something cause they got the camera in front of them. But the cool dudes always stick out no matter where they at."

T.I.'s response to Jim Jones' diss

Recently in an interview with dj and radio personality Clinton Sparks, He asked T.I. about Jones' comments and he laughed it off and said, “Well you know what, that's very funny that either one of you should mention that because my clothing line Akoo will be in stores in November and I believe there will be quite a few people going out to get it. So hopefully, I can step my swag up a little bit. Maybe I can meet his standards. I ain't trippin' over that, man.”

T.I. is King of the Charts But Still Feels Like An Underdog & Explains SLU

Despite record breaking numbers T.I. feels like an Underdog & explains SLU

You would think that having the number album and single in the country, for a few weeks, would solidify T.I.'s claim has the "King of the South" but in an interview with the Associated Press the rapper says he still feels like an "underdog."

"Nobody has ever given me a win and nobody has ever said, 'T.I., you know he's going to do this thing.' They always (say), 'He's not going to do this much, he's not going to do that good, I don't believe he'll do that well.' So it's always been an uphill battle for me no matter how big I get I'm always the underdog," he said to the Associated Press.

T.I.'s "Paper Trail" debuted as the #1 album in the country, moving more than 568,000 units in its first week. His latest single, "Live Your Life," sits on top of the Billboard Top 200 taking the #1 slot from his first single, "Whatever You Like." This is T.I.'s third straight # 1 album on The Billboard 200 and the third largest opening week of the year for any artist. T.I. also broke his own record on the Hot 100 singles list. Just six weeks ago the rapper had broken the previous record for largest climb and he has now broken his own record this week. "Live Your Life" featuring Rihanna, the second single from "Paper Trail," lept 80-1, replacing the album's first single "Whatever You Like" at # 1. The first single was #1 for five weeks.

Not bad for a man facing 10 years in prison a year ago. Exactly a year ago this month T.I., real name Clifford Harris, was arrested for trying to buy an arsenal of weapons from his former bodyguard. He has since been sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to complete 1000 hours of community service, counseling youths on the perils of the street life. T.I. is scheduled to begin his prison sentence in March of 2009.

About the miraculous turn of events T.I. said, "It's a blessing to come from where I was at the beginning of the year all the way to right here," he said. "It's an honor and a privilege to assume such levels of achievement."

While the mainstream love "Whatever You Like" and "Live Your Life," the buzz on the streets has been T.I.'s "Swagga Like US" track featuring an M.I.A. sample and guest vocals by Kanye West, Jay Z and Lil Wayne. T.I. explains how the instant classic came about, "It wasn't like I said let me get Jay, Wayne and Kanye on the same song," he said. "The song started off with me and Kanye and it was just me and Kanye, and mutual associates of all four of us suggested, 'Hey man, if Jay and Wayne were on here too, it'll be one of the biggest songs in hip-hop history.' So I said, 'You know what, that's a great idea. It's ambitious, but it's a great idea.' So we reached out and they agreed and it's a pleasure to have them involved."

Halle Berry has been voted the "Sexiest Woman Alive" by Esquire magazine. The 42 year old actress, who recently had a child a few months ago, graces the cover of this month's magazine. The cover is a remake of their famous Bill Clinton cover and features Halle Berry in the same pose with similar but more revealing attire.

“I don't know exactly what it means,” Berry says, “but being 42 and having just had a baby, I think I'll take it." Then she reveals why she is deserving of the honor despite her age, “I'll tell you this: I've learned my tricks. I know what I like. I do not wait around. I initiate. And I'm not all about frequency. I favour intensity.” She continues, “There have been some men in my life who have been wickedly sexy and have taught me much about sexual pleasure. Lil Kim Sued By Record Company for $2.5 Million

Lil Kim sued for $2.5 Million

Lil Kim, real name Kimberly Jones, is being sued by her current record label, Brookland Media, for $2.5 million dollars. In court documents filed on Tuesday (October 7th) in New York State Supreme Court, the company claims that after spending thousands of dollars and creating the record label specifically for the Queen Bee, she has not met her contractual obligations. Brookland is headed by Tone and Poke, of the legendary Trackmasters production team

The lawsuit states that Lil’ Kim was paid a $300,000 advance by Brookland Media to buy out her contract with Atlantic Records and make a new album (budgeted at an additional $674,000), but by the end of the summer she had only recorded three new tracks.

A New York judge ordered a temporary injunction that prevents Kim from recording any new music. The judge has set a preliminary hearing date of Nov. 5.

Lil Kim was recently sued by a publishing claiming she is in breach of contract after they paid her $40,000 for autobiography over two years ago and she has failed to produce a manuscript.

Baby gives Lil Wayne a $1 million at his 26th birthday party

Lil Wayne celebrated his 26th birthday in style at Club Mansion, in Miami, Florida on Tuesday night. The Cash Money Artist and Young Money CEO partied with celebrity friends including DJ Khaled and Akon. Money was obviously the theme of the night as one of the party's main attractions was an ice sculpture full of frozen $100 bills, but no one expected what was to come.

Then the interviewer asked Scarface how he felt about the current Presidential election and being the outspoken, never one to hold his tongue, man that he is, he told him exactly how he felt.

The Houston rap legend said, "I love Barack and I also love that nigger-hating Senator John McCain. If I... If you never in your life seen a nigger-hating motherf--ker, a motherf--ker that just hates niggers, look at that pink ass whiteboy, but at least he real with himself though, at least McCain is real with himself. McCain's "That One" Statement

Interestingly enough this interview with Scarface was before the second debate where many felt that McCain's disrespect towards Barack Obama became even more blatant. After the first debate many viewers felt that McCain's lack of eye contact and his unwillingness to talk directly to Obama was a sign of disrespect towards the younger Senator. He also constantly kept saying that "he doesn't understand," while Obama was much more diplomatic and many times throughout the debate pointed out when he agreed with the elder senator on certain issues. However during the second debate McCain made his disdain even more obvious and in one particular exchange he referred to Senator Obama as "That One" while pointing his finger at him. Many took offense to this blatant form of disrespect towards Obama, including Diddy who released a statement via his video blog. In the installment entitled "Diddy Blog #27: McCain calls Obama THAT ONE, What the ...." Diddy says McCain scares me more than Sarah Palin, in reference to his previous comedic post about how the Alaska Governor scares him because of her seemingly clueless knowledge of world affairs. A visibly agitated Diddy declined to comment directly on McCain's 'THAT ONE' statement, calling these blogs "dangerous," but he kept repeating the phrase and invited viewers to voice their opinions. He did however have a message to McCain "We'll see you at the polls on November 4th," the post ends with a caption reading "Vote for THAT ONE on November 4th." As a result there's been an avalanche of viewers' feedback posted about McCain's clear disrespectful attitude and gestures towards Obama.

In related news, the Foo Fighters have released a statement telling John McCain to stop using their song “My Hero” at campaign appearances.

Foo Fighter's Statement:

Beyonce releases new songs, announces new album title & release date, & opens up about marriage

Beyoncé is back! She just released two new singles to radio stations on Wednesday (October 8) and annouced that her new album "I Am..." will be in stores on November 18. With the dual single release, she hopes to conquer two markets at once. "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" is the club anthem and the other is a ballad called "If I Were a Boy" — two songs that represent two different sides of the singer.

In a letter to fans last week, Beyoncé explains the new album to her fans, saying this album would be introspective, risky and that she would share the different sides of her more than ever before.

Beyoncé's letter to her fans:

"I have recorded over 70 songs and have created a sound that reveals all of me. I am in a different place right now, and I wanted people to see the many sides of me," Beyoncé continued in the letter. "The music is upbeat for the dance, fun side, and it is reflective, passionate and serious for the personal side. I have taken risks here. I am not afraid. ... There is no label or tag on my sound. It's me, and I am so excited to share it with the world."

Beyoncé also graces the cover of this month's Essence magazine and gets more intimate than ever in talking about her marriage. "I feel that, especially now, with the Internet and paparazzi and camera phones, it's so difficult to maintain mystery," she told Essence. "And that's so important. Even in a relationship, I feel like not being that accessible is really important. If you think about Prince or Michael Jackson, or any superstars, you couldn't see them when they got off their planes or when they got out of the pool and didn't comb their hair. It's great that people see we're not perfect. But it's almost impossible to have superstars now, because people will never get enough. And it's not even about my music. It's about all the things that people imagine about me in their minds. But I can't satisfy everyone. I know that Jay and I probably do inspire people. And I appreciate people feeling proud. But this is the only way I've been able to stay sane, so why would I start talking now? [Not speaking] controls your brand," she continued. "It controls what you want to put out there and kind of forces people to talk about what you want them to talk about." Sounds like her husband Jay Z has been coaching her well. But during the interview it seemed Beyoncé finally started to let her guard down and began giving little details about her marriage. "We decide everything," she told the magazine. "My word is my word. What Jay and I have is real. It's not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It's real."

As she began to get even more candid she said, "You're gonna get me in trouble." Beyoncé tells the magazine that the wedding was very small and intimate, explaining she's not a "traditional" woman and having "her day" wasn't as important to her. She explained that being a star, "It's been my day so many days already," that she didn't need the extravagant affair. She also said that she opted not to get an engagement ring because "people put too much emphasis on that. It's just material, and it's just silly to me."

She declined to talk about how, or if, Jay Z proposed, she just simply said, "We've been together a long time. We always knew it would happen." Recently, Hova was asked about kids and he expressed a desire to have kids, when the Essence asked Beyoncé she revealed that they do plan to have kids and it might even happen as soon as after this next album.

50 Cent releases "Before I Self Destruct" movie trailer & two new tracks

A few weeks ago we told you about 50's plans for a December takeover; with a new album, movie, video game and a newly resurrected G-Unit Clothing line. Well it seems the takeover is now beginning. 50 recently premiered the trailer to his new movie, "Before I Self Destruct" and released two new tracks.

Details are emerging about the various projects. 50 recently told Blender magazine that he was in Detroit working on his fourth album, Before I Self Destruct, with Eminem. He told them they have at least one collaboration called "Norman Bates Motel" completed.

"Dre sent over a bunch of beats, and we're just going through them all, picking out who wants what," 50 told Blender. "We already finished one joint and just started vocals on another. It's gonna blow you away, I guarantee."

50 wrote, directed, produced and will star in Before I Self Destruct the movie.

The album and movie will be released on December 9th.

Kanye West appeared on Ellen today to premiere his video for Love Lockdown. The video features Kanye dressed in all-white in an all-white house with tribesman and tribe video vixens dancing, or attacking, during the drums. Interesting concept, kinda-like National Geographic meets Soul Train.

Hip Hop Honors 2008: Cypress Hill, Naughty By Nature, Too Short, De La Soul, Slick Rick & special honoree Isaac Hayes

VH1 put together another incredible show this year. The show brought together the who's who of Hip Hop both past and present, to celebrate the pioneers of the game.

The show was taped at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday, October 2 in New York City. Hosted by Tracy Morgan, the music and influence of each of the honorees was recognized through performances by classic artists in collaboration with today's hottest new talent. This year, "VH1 Hip Hop Honors" paid tribute to Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Naughty By Nature, Slick Rick and Too $hort.

The Cypress Hill tribute kicked off the night with an introduction by Freddy Rodriguez. Fat Joe, Jim Jones and Gym Class Heroes drove the crowd insane with the group's hit songs "The Phuncky Feel One," "I Ain't Goin' Out Like That," and "Insane In the Membrane." Cypress Hill lit up the stage with performances of "DJ Scratch Intro," "How I Could Just Kill A Man," and "(Rock) Superstar."

Actress Joy Bryant introduced the second tribute of the night, honorees De La Soul, who took it way back with performances from Estelle, Mos Def, Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Cee-Lo and EPMD. They tore the roof off with the group's biggest hits, "A Roller Skating Jam Named 'Saturdays,'" "Stakes Is High," "Potholes In My Lawn," and "Ego Trippin.'" Topping off the performance, De La Soul broke it down true old school style reminding the crowd that they can still get down, breaking out in a medley of old school rhymes from "Me, Myself and I" to a remix of "Buddy!"

The show continued on a "slick" note with hits that defined Slick Rick's solo career. Legendary rapper MC Lyte kicked off the tribute with "The Ruler's Back." The crowd went crazy when Busta Rhymes and Spliff Star took the stage performing the "The Show" which brought everyone to their feet. They led into a true hip hop medley with the legendary Biz Markie and Ghostface Killah singing "La Di Da Di." Finally Eve took the stage with her rendition of the eclectic hip hop chart topper "Mona Lisa." Slick Rick then took to the stage performing "Hey Young World" and "Children's Story."

Next, in honor of R&B legend Isaac Hayes, a medley of artists took the stage to salute the icon. Mos Def took the stage first, outfitted in dark shades, setting it off with the hit theme song from "Shaft." Next British sweetheart Estelle performed a remix of "I Love You," and Cee-Lo kept the crowd grooving with "The Look of Love." Next on stage, Scarface dazzled the crowd with "My Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me." Closing out this special tribute was Chuck D with "Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos."

Hip hop entrepreneur and producer Luke Campbell took the stage to introduce Too $hort. Luke talked about how he set the stage and paved the way for Too $hort to become the artist he is today. Also paying homage to Too $hort, Kid Rock gave a thrilling performance of "Life Is Too Short." Lil John got low with "Shake That Monkey" followed by a duet with Bun B of the electric "Blow the Whistle." After an intro performance of "The Ghetto" by Scarface, Too $hort got the crowd on their feet with "Gettin' It" and "Money In The Ghetto."

Bringing the show to an unforgettable end, Wyclef Jean, Juelz Santana and Big Boi ripped the stage with the all-time favorites, "No Woman No Cry," "Everything's Gonna Be All Right," and the monster hit "O.P.P." Eminem Voted "Best Rapper Alive" by Fans, Releasing New Book This Month & Album Details Emerge

While many rappers have been claiming to be the "Best Rapper Alive," Vibe took it directly to the fans and let them decide who the best rapper alive is. Well the two-month long, tournament style, head-to-head competition is over and the winner is ......... EMINEM!

In the final face off of the tournament Eminem and Jay Z went toe-to-toe, but Em beat Hov with 69% of the fans' votes and was annointed "The Best Rapper Alive."

"It's obviously an honor to have won the fans' support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive," Eminem said in a statement released. "I don't think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best, though. Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do. But since Vibe's offering the distinction, hell yeah, I'll accept!"

Sean Fennessey, Vibe's music editor said, "Vibe is thrilled we could put the debate about the Best Rapper Alive in the hands of the fans. Eminem isn't just one of the most successful MCs of all time, he's also one of the most beloved. The proof is in the voting."

In related news Sha Money, manager of G Unit, recently revealed on his blog that Eminem's new album will be titled "Empack" and will drop in December as previously reported. According to him, Eminem's Empack, 50's Before I Self Destruct and Dr. Dre's Detox will all drop before the year's end and he cautions all rappers to push back their albums because, as he describes it, "The Three Headed Monster" is coming.

While Eminem fans are eagerly waiting on his new album they might want to buy his new book. The book entitled "The Way I Am" is the follow up to "Angry Blonde." According to the the book's reviews, Eminem "shares his private thoughts on everything from his inner struggles, to the trials of being famous, to his love for his daughter, Hailie, creating a book that is every bit as raw and uncensored as the man himself." The book will ship to stores on October 21, 2008 and will compete with his mother's own autobiography (see here), were she disputes many of Eminem's claims about his upbringing.

Jay Z Rocks Detroit in free concert for Obama

As we reported earlier Jay-Z recently announced that he would be performing two free voter registration concerts for Obama. The first was this weekend in Detroit (see pictures & video below). The second will be on Monday, October 6th in Miami's Bayfront Park.

He also performed a free concert with Wyclef Jean and Pitbull on Sunday (Oct 5th). During the concert rap mogul said, "Listen," as he laughed, "this is where I always get in trouble. The guy on the other side, I'm not talking about him. I'm talking about somebody else ... someone else on that other ticket ..." and remained silent for a few seconds then jumped into "99 Problems (But A Bitch Ain't One)."

The R&B star and actress was inducted into the International Pediatric Hall of Fame in recognition for her hard work and charitable contributions.

Tables at the glitzy event cost $10,000.

Kimbo Slices Gets K.O.'d In 14 Seconds

Last night on CBS' Saturday Night Fights, street fighting legend Kimbo Slice suffered a shocking defeat to Seth "Silverback" Petruzelli by TKO. The fight at Sunrise, Florida's BankAtlantic Center was stopped just 14 seconds into the first round.

At the sound of the bell, the internet street fighting sensation immediately rushed Petruzelli but was floored with a quick kick and punch combination and never recovered. Referee Troy Waugh stopped the fight after just 14 seconds. Kimbo suffered a deep gash over his left eye. This was Kimbo's first loss in a professional fight.

Kimbo was originally scheduled to fight Ken Shamrock but he was not allowed to fight after sustaining a cut over left eye during a pre-fight practice. Even after the injury Shamrock was eager to fight Kimbo but the Florida State Athletic Commission refused to allow it. Kimbo accepted to fight Petruzelli instead, with just an hour's notice.

"[Slice] showed heart. He showed he is a true man and a true warrior," said Jeremy Lappen, head of fight operations for ProElite. "He stepped up on an hour's notice. It didn't go his way tonight, but he will be back and better than ever."

"Before tonight nobody knew who this guy was, now everybody knows who he is," Slice said. "I have nothing but good stuff to say about him. To Petruzelli Kimbo said, "You beat me in front of my family, man, that's [messed] up. But it's all good. And I got the first black-eye of my life."

Petruzelli improved his professional career to 11-4, 8 KOs, while Kimbo's record is now 3-1, 2 KOs.

Tupac Producer Johnny J Commits Suicide in Jail

Johnny J, famed Tupac producer, jumps to his death in LA County Jail

Multi-platinum producer, songwriter and former rapper Johnny J, real name Johnny Jackson, committed suicide yesterday (10/3) in the LA County Jail where he was being held on a DUI. According to reports he jumped to his death from a tier in the jail. He was 39 years old.

Johnny J's first hit was Candyman's "Knocking Boots" which went platinum and garnered him Grammy and American Music Award nominations. However, the Mexican-born, South Central resident rose to fame as Tupac Shakur's producer for his extensive work on two of the rapper's most successful albums, "All Eyez on Me" and "Me Against the World".

Hip Hop and R&B artists he worked with include Jon B, Mark Wahlberg, MC Hammer, Bizzy Bone, K-Ci & JoJo, Craig Mack, Nate Dogg, and The Outlaws. Johnny J also scored several films including Gridlock'd, SuperCop and Blood Diamond. He released one solo album, "I Gotta Be Me," in 1995. Most recently Johnny J was working with singer Tatyana Ali on her sophomore album "The Light".

Johnny J is survived by a wife and two kids.

Kanye tries to snatch another paparazzi's camera at LAX!

While in LA Kanye West was approached by a very polite paparazzi but he was in no mood to answer any questions. The paparazzi kept asking Kanye if he had anything to say about the previous incident at LAX and if wanted to apologize but Kanye just grilled him. At one point Kanye gets so fed up that he reaches out and tries to snatch the camera. Eventually Kanye told the cameraman, "I'm going to ask you as a man to leave me alone."

Maino explains why he slapped Yung Berg

According to Maino on Thursday night Young Berg stepped to him in an Atlanta club and said, "I heard you were talking about me recklessly." Maino asked him "What?" and when he repeated himself Maino slapped him. He said Yung Berg and his people apologized after the incident and he accepted the apology and holds no hard feelings towards the youngster.

Jenny Boom from HOT 93.7 called Maino and he set the record straight on the incident. Maino admitted to slapping him but said he still likes him. In the interview (which you can hear below) Maino says, "I did him a favor. I was just trying to sober him up. I still like him ... I just disciplined him. He kept his jewelry and everything ... I just think he has the wrong direction. But it's no problem."

It's over for O.J., found guilty on all counts, faces life imprisonment

It's over for O.J., 13 years to the day after he was acquitted in the murders of his ex-wife and her friend a Las Vegas jury has found O.J. Simpson guilty in the armed robbery and kidnapping case. Mr. Simpson faced 12 chargesstemming from a September 2007 confrontation in a casino hotel room in which he and five codefendants departed withhundreds of items of sports memorabilia.

OJ faces 15 years to life for the kidnapping charge and at least another 10 years in prison on other charges. His attorney, Yale Galanter, said he would appeal.

He seemed stunned and showed little emotion as the verdicts were read and the judge denied him bail. As his sister, Carmelita, wept and fainted in the front row, he was led away in handcuffs. Mr. Simpson is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 5.

Later his attorney Mr. Galanter said, “He’s extremely upset, extremely emotional. We knew this was going to be very difficult, we knew the jury was going to be very difficult, we knew the jurisdiction would be very difficult.”

Clark County District Attorney David Roger, the lead prosecutor in the case, said his office would not comment on the case until after sentencing. None of the jurors spoke to the media on Friday.

The case stems from charges that Simpson led five men into a Palace Station Hotel-Casino room and stole hundreds of items of memorabilia related to the sports careers of Simpson and three other athletes. Simpson claims these items were stolen from him and he was merely retrieving them.

According to the victims, Bruce L. Fromong and Alfred Beardsley, they were led to believe that a prospective buyer was coming to browse the goods when Simpson and his crew burst into the room. Several witnesses testified that the crew had at least one gun. The weapon adds years to the minimum sentences for nine of the 12 charges, which also included conspiracy to commit robbery and kidnapping, burglary, robbery, assault and coercion.

The all-white jury of nine women and three men deliberated for 13 hours before delivering the guilty verdicts. The fact that there were no blacks among the jurors would make it likely be part of an appeal.

Convicted with Simpson, 61, was Clarence Stewart, 54, one of the five men who accompanied Mr. Simpson in the raid. Mr. Stewart faces the same sentences. The other defendants testified against Simpson and pleaded to lesser charges.

“This case has never been about a search for the true facts,” Mr. Galanter said. “This case has taken on a life of its own because Mr. Simpson’s involved. You know that, I know that, every cooperator, every person with a gun, every person who signed a book deal, every person who got paid money, the police, the district attorney’s office, was only interested in one thing: Mr. Simpson.”

Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, recently toured Africa and was delighted to see his plans come to fruition. He recently told People.com, "I went to Africa, spent a couple weeks in Angola. A bunch of different places. That was the whole thing for me," he said. "I've given to charities in the past and you close your eyes and cross your fingers and hope that the money gets there. With this I got to go to Africa, I got to see the water pumps, I got to touch it," he went on, "I got to see the kids turn them on." In his acceptance speech he reiterated that and said, "Tonight, I don't know what I'm doing here, I'm rewarded already."

As Jay Z was on the gala's red carpet, reporters asked the recently married rapper if working with kids made him want kids of his own. He answered by saying, "Most people I guess dream of having a family some day, so I'm just a regular American boy." Beyonce did not attend the ceremony.

I cannot stress enough how important this election is. America is in a crisis, we're at war abroad and we're at war right here at home! This economic crisis is threatening our way of life. This country is at a crossroad and what happens at this election determines where this country will go from here, we can keep declining or we can rise once again. I know a lot of people think their vote doesn't count but that's far from the truth, collectively our votes will make a tremendous impact. I hear people referring to the "stolen election" of 2000 and say "they're just going to steal the election again" but that only happened because not enough of us went out and voted. It's easy to cheat when the numbers are low but when there's millions of votes they won't be able to pull that off again. People died for our right to vote and we must honor those sacrifices by exercising the right to vote.

The world is changing and, unfortunately, America is not the superpower we once were. Because of this current administration, anti-American sentiments are being heard throughout the world, we have to reverse that. We cannot continue this path to self-destruction. We grew up in the #1 country in the world, it may not have been kind to some of us but we still enjoyed a better quality of life than many others around the world, but now that quality of life is being threatened. If we continue this path we will leave our children and their children a very pathetic America. The America we know will only exist in history books if we don't take action. As Americans we're so use to being #1 in the world that we can't even fantom the idea of falling off, but the reality is that we are. We're slowly eroding, remember every great empire throughout history has eroded from within and that seems to be the path we're headed in.

Today's America is just a shadow of its former self. We're not creating anything or manufacturing products here anymore. The best jobs are getting outsourced to other countries. "American" cars are being built in Mexico. Our computer jobs are being outsourced to India. American manufacturing companies have set up shop in China and Taiwan. America's research and development is at an all time low. The only thing left is the image of what America once was. We're a great brand that use to create quality products but doesn't anymore, for a while consumers keep buying the product because the remember those great products of yesteryear but eventually everyone gets hip that it's not what it use to be. America, as it stands, is not what it use to be, we're falling off. We're living off of what we use to be, what we once were. I hate to sound so pessimistic but it's the reality. However, this election gives me hope.

With this vote we can put America back on the right path. With the right leader we can make America the world's leader and not the world's bully. With the right leader America can once again lead the world. Together we can reclaim America's old glory and make it even better than it ever was, a more inclusive America. I envision an America were everyone has access to the "American Dream." Until now that American Dream was only a possibility for some with many of us being left out, but we can change that with our vote. All we have to do is walk into that booth, close the curtain behind us, make the right choice, and pull the lever. It's that simple and only takes a few minutes but our future and children's future and grandchildren's future depends on it. If we miss this opportunity we will never have an opportunity like this again.

Last Night's VP Debate

Last night's highly anticipated Vice Presidential debate, between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, was a sleeper with nothing new to report accept that Palin managed not to screw up and that's no small feat but I guess all the tutoring they've been giving her has finally paid off. Palin managed to not answer many of the questions and talk about whatever she felt like talking about (or whatever she knows a little about). Biden, on the other hand, kept his composure and in my opinion had better answers to the questions presented to him. Overall there was nothing new, Palin tried to act like a regular middle-class American with their concerns at heart, but that's hard to do when your running-mate is worth over $100 million and doesn't even remember how many houses he owns, while Biden was the politician and talked and acted like a politician.

According to a post-debate poll Joe Biden won last night's debate. They polled 500 uncommitted voters who watched the vice presidential debate and found that Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden did the best job by a margin of more than two to one, according to the CBS News/Knowledge Networks poll taken immediately following the debate. Forty-six percent of these uncommitted viewers said Biden won the debate Thursday night, while 21 percent said Palin won. Thirty-three percent thought it was a tie. Even a quarter of Republican uncommitted voters thought Biden won the debate.

Another CBS News poll shows Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama leads GOP rival John McCain 49 percent to 40 percent among registered voters. The nine-point lead is a jump of four percentage points in Obama's lead from a CBS News/New York Times survey taken last week. Obama also leads by nine points among likely voters, 50 percent to 41 percent.

HBO pulls out of Kanye's show: "it was too hardcore"

Kanye West's HBO show has been shelved by the cable network, the show's co-executive producer has revealed. The untitled show was to be a improvisational comedy loosely based on his life and would have been directed by Larry Charles (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, Borat) and also involved Hip Hop/Rock producer Rick Rubin. In a recent interview Charles says HBO pulled out of the show because they felt it was too racy.

Larry Charles, who directed the pilot episode, told comingsoon.com, "It was really good, but ... I think it was too hard-core for HBO. Also, HBO's management shifted. HBO doesn't have a good track record when it comes to black shows, and I felt like that may have had something to do with it also," he told the site. "I don't see a lot of shows about that experience at all. This was very entertaining and we showed it to a lot of people. People gave it a very good response, and it seems to be on the shelf right now. The management has shifted at HBO so we're waiting to see."

When the show was first announced many felt it was a reality show but Kanye quickly set the rumors to rest declaring, “I wouldn’t do something as clichéd as a reality show. At least give me the credit for being more creative than that... For the last couple of years, Larry, Rick and I have been developing this pilot. It’s a situational half-hour comedy. It’s fictional, and loosely based on my life.” No further details were known about the show until now. Charles said the show is roughly Kanye's version of Larry David's show, "Curb Your Enthusiasm," an idea that Kanye thought up himself. "What Kanye West said to me the first time, he said, 'I'm the black Larry David.' That's the first thing he said to me. So it's like a Kanye-and-'Curb' show, it's kind of improvised about the situations and stuff."

Charles said he was impressed with Kanye's ability to improvise comedy in front of the camera. "He's so much funnier than people realize," Charles continued. "Even the whole being-full-of-himself stuff is a joke to him, and he likes to play that of being like, you know, Kanye. And he's kind of a brilliant guy actually."

An HBO representative confirmed that the show has been in development but nothing has materialized. She said she had no knowledge of the show's status, noting that the show has been in development for some time and adding, "Until it is actually shot or picked up as a pilot, we don't have any info."

In related news, Kanye West has announced he will perform two New Zealand shows with fellow rapper Nas in Auckland in December. West, who last performed in New Zealand when he opened for U2 at Mt Smart Stadium in 2006, will perform with Nas and Kiwi rapper Scribe at Auckland's Vector Arena on December 1st. They'll then head south to perform at Wellington's TSB Arena on December 2nd.

Duck Down CEO Buckshot Released From Hospital

Buckshot was released from the hospital today

Buckshot was released earlier today (10/2) after being hospitalized for 8 days. As we reported last week, The Hip Hop legend and Duck Down Records CEO was admitted to a New York hospital last week after suffering as many as nine seizures in one day, according to sources. Doctors believe the seizures were caused by severe physical exhaustion and dehydration. Buckshot was just returning home after completing a three-week tour in Europe.

Due to the hospitalization the rapper was forced to cancel a Black Moon reunion show. No word on whether the show will be rescheduled.

Buckshot released a statement to his fans. "I want to thank all the fans who called and wrote emails extending their well wishes and prayers. All the support helped me recover that much quicker."

Buckshot is currently working with new Duck Down member KRS-One, a third solo album with producer 9th Wonder, and a Black Moon reunion album. Duck Down also recently signed B-Real of Cypress Hill fame.

In promo ads for the season finale of reality show, Making the Band 4, Diddy says "She's not gonna be in Danity Kane no more, would you like to go with her?" For weeks rumors have been swirling through the internet that group member Aubrey O'Day was no longer in the group, to add to the speculation she has been increasingly making solo appearances and hasn't been seen with the group recently, but with Diddy you never know. To find out who is getting booted off the group we'll have to tune in next Tuesday at 9pm.

In related news, Aubrey O'Day has also been rumored to be romantically involved with Diddy but in an interview with Complex magazine, she shoots the rumors down and seemed to take a jab at her boss. "I just don’t feel the need to respond to it at all. People are usually sensitive to things when they’re true, and they feel like people are exposing them. It’s ridiculous. And trust me, of all the things that I’m attracted to in a man, Diddy is none of those things. I run my career, I don’t depend on anyone else to make me hot."

When asked about the rumors surrounding a breakup of Danity Kane, she responded, "I am very dedicated to Danity Kane, and nothing I can ever do will conflict with my respect, love and dedication to that project. So, on my end, there will never be any issues. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I can speak for myself."

Game ordered to attend anger management classes or go back to jail

A California judge has given the Game, real name Jayceon Taylor, a break and not violated his parole but the rapper must attend anger management classes. The judge agreed to dismiss criminal charges that could’ve led to the rapper’s imprisonment if the rapper attends 36 anger management classes by February.

Game appeared in the California courtroom on Tuesday, to face battery charges after an alleged fight at the funeral of his cousin. The cousin’s brother reportedly confronted Game about costs associated with the funeral, which led to a physical clash.

Game's cousin, Robert "Kirky" Kirkwood, filed a police report after the incident (in July'08) claiming that Game punched him at his sister's funeral. According to Kirkwood's complaint, Game had agreed to pay half of the bill for his sister's funeral but then refused to pay. He claims that when Game appeared at his sister's funeral, he approached him about the money for the funeral outside the church and the rapper punched him in the face.

Game has had numerous brushes with the law and briefly served jail time early this year. He is currently on parole for a weapons charge.

Scarface tells MTV, "I don't retire, I quit. It feels real good. The Emeritus record, the reason I'm so proud of it is because it's my last. I'm done, man. If you leave it up to me, I quit." But he admits he could be lured back into the music industry by some rap greats - if they ever want to collaborate with him. He adds, "Only thing that's gonna bring me back (is) if I do an album with somebody.

New polls numbers show Sarah Palin's approval rating is nose diving

Just 25 per cent of likely voters think Palin has the right experience to be president, according to an Associated Press-Gfk poll released Wednesday. That number is down from 41 per cent who expressed confidence in the first-term Alaska governor following her appearance at the GOP convention last month.

The poll indicated even Republican-leaning voters were increasingly suspicious of her abilities, with 47 per cent saying she has the right experience to be president, down from 75 per cent in the earlier survey.

The poll of 808 likely voters was conducted Saturday through Tuesday and had a sampling error of 3.4 percentage points.

A similar poll, conducted by the Pew Research Centre, also found support for Palin was slipping.

Of the 1,505 Americans surveyed, 63 per cent said Biden was qualified to serve as president if necessary, while 37 per cent said the same of Palin.

"Compared with public opinion immediately following Palin's nomination and convention speech, far fewer now hold the view that she is qualified to be president. More than half (52%) viewed her as qualified earlier in the month," the Pew poll results read.

The Pew poll sampling error was plus or minus 3.0 percentage points.

The two vice presidential nominees will debate on Thursday (10/2). The 90-minute exchange, scheduled for 9 p.m. ET at Washington University St. Louis, and will be hosted by Gwen Ifill of PBS.

The irony is that such low expectations may actually help Palin, if she even says one thing that can construed as remotely intelligent she'll probably be declared the winner of the debate.

According to rumors rapper B.G,, formerly of Cash Money, was literally caught sleeping & robbed by a woman in Milwaukee over the weekend. Apparently he spent the night with her and when he woke up the young lady was gone along with his wallet and diamond encrusted chain.

Jay Z will be performing for free in support of Senator Obama's Presidential campaign this weekend, according to sources. The free concerts will take place in Detroit on Saturday (Oct. 4) and Miami on Saturday (Oct. 5). According to the source, tickets to the concerts will be available at Obama’s local campaign offices.

Jay-Z and Obama have shown a mutual admiration for one another. Jay Z has included him in his songs and Obama recently admitted to listening to Jay Z's songs on his ipod and many refer to his famous "brushing his shoulders off" at one of his rallies as a sign that he is a Jay Z fan.

In a recent interview Method Man explains the album's delay, "Right now we’re just piecing together more beats, and what direction we’re gonna go. ‘Cause this just can’t be, like, ‘'You rhyme, I rhyme.' Nah. We want it to actually feel like so much of a collaboration that it’s in unison, it clicks together. Like, you can’t have your cereal without your milk. That’s the best analogy I can come up with right now."

Janet Jackson is released from the hospital but forced to cancel 2 more shows

As we reported earlier, Janet Jackson was hospitalized after falling "suddenly ill" before a concert in Montreal on Monday. Thankfully, the singer has been released, however she has been forced to cancel to more stops on her "Rock Witchu Tour" while she recovers.

A spokeswoman for the McGill University Health Centre, where Jackson was treated said, "Yesterday evening she was checked into the Royal Victoria Hospital and left a couple of hours later."

There has been no official word on her illness, but a source close to her boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri, has revealed that she was suffering from exhaustion because of the gruelling tour schedule.

The source told People magazine, "A 42-year-old body can't handle what a 22-year-old body can. I can tell you that she's definitely tired. It was probably exhaustion. She is doing back-to-back, three-hour shows, and her body isn't the same as it used to be."

The same night that Jackson was rushed to the hospital, Dupri was spotted in New York City partying at Patron's Music in Motion Tour featuring TI at Marquee. "If [Janet's condition] was more serious he would've rushed to her side," added the source.

Jackson, has postponed her Wednesday show in Boston and a Thursday performance in Philadelphia until further notice. She will resume her tour Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.

It's a Wrap for "Rap City", Replaced by "The Deal"

BET cancels Rap City and replaces it with new show "The Deal"

After 21 year memorable years, BET is canceling the longest running Hip Hop video show. The legendary show went through numerous host and set changes throughout the years but always remained a platform for up and coming hip hop artists, both rappers and DJs. The show's freestyle segment created some of the most memorable freestyle sessions in Hip Hop.

For weeks the show's cancellation had been rumored but yesterday the network posted an "unofficial" announcement on its blog. The post does not cite any reasons for the cancellation but does share that the show aired its last episode on September 19th. The network is preparing a show finale to be commemorate its historic run. The post also said that Rap City will be replaced with a new show called "The Deal" hosted by DJ Diamond Kutz set to begin airing on November 10th.

"The Deal" will be a one hour show and contain some of Rap City's best elements such as the freestyle sessions with a slew of new interactive features. The new show will still feature all the latest Hip Hop videos but will now "include pop-up information, facts and quirky tidbits on the artist and/or the song itself". A new segment called "Here's the Deal" will allow viewers to participate through postings made on the show's website on BET.com.

The show's cancellation comes weeks after MTV announced the cancellation of its own Total Request Live (TRL) show.

Janet Jackson hospitalized, cancels show in Montreal

A representative for Janet Jackson says the singer has been hospitalized after falling ill shortly before a concert.

According to statement released by W&W Public Relations, the singer canceled her concert in Montreal on Monday (9/29) after she "got suddenly ill" during her sound check and had to be rushed to the hospital just before show time. Last Friday, Jackson canceled the weekend Detroit stop of her Rock Witchu road show due to "production constraints."

The announcement was made to fans five minutes before LL Cool J was about to open for the star.

The statement says Jackson, 42, is being monitored at the hospital and hopes to reschedule the show. No further information was given about Jackson's condition.

In an exclusive interview with MTV's Sway, the Democratic Presidential nominee explains his position on Hip Hop.

When asked if he listens to Hip Hop Obama says, "I enjoy it, but these days I don't have the time to listen to it all the time," and mentions having Jay Z and Kanye, among others on his ipod.

When Sway asked him what role Hip Hop played in his life, he said "I'm a little older than hip-hop culture. I was there at the beginning, but I was already getting older. ... What I've appreciated, watching this hip-hop generation, is to see how entrepreneurial they've been. In the past, musicians oftentimes were commodities. They were just shuffled around. Obviously, they did well, but they didn't have the vision to say, 'I'm going to build a business. I'm going to build my own studio. I'm going to create my own production operations.' I think they're a lot more sophisticated than in the past, and that is a wonderful thing."

What he most like about Hip Hop is, "Them (rappers) stretching out more and thinking about social responsibility and how they can impact the culture in a positive way," he said. "And I hope that continues."

When Sway asked him about Hip Hop's greatest debate, who the greatest rapper of all time was, the presidential nominee jokingly said "Oh no, I'm not going to get caught up in all that."

In an interview with Forbez DVD, Big Pun's wife talks about his life, his death, and his legacy. In the 41 minute interview she claims that Fat Joe has not kept Big Pun's legacy alive because "he wants everyone to forget Big Pun". While she says she harbors no ill feelings towards Fat Joe he has not paid Pun's estate what he owes them and has in fact tried to block her efforts to keep his legacy alive. She claims that when she was trying to put together a memorial concert not only did Fat Joe not attend put he persuaded others not to take part as well. DMX, who did perform at the event, confessed to her that Fat Joe called him and asked him not to perform at the event.

During the interview she talks about her financial hardships, losing her house and selling off Remy Martin and Tony Sunshine's contracts for $75,000 to pay her bills. Rios says “I don’t want Joe to take care of me, I just want what’s due to Pun.” She adds,“Pun had mad love for Joe and put him on the map, wrote all his shit. Every song that Joe’s on, Pun wrote everything. He was the creative force behind Terror Squad. Everybody writes Joe’s shit." According to her even Remy Martin wrote Fat Joe's rhymes after Pun's passing.

Rios says Pun's death was due to his addiction to food which was the result of his mind state. She explains that Pun had a very rough upbringing and this caused him to suffer from bouts of depression. Rios says she feels guilt about his death because she was the "enabler" of his addiction.

Sean Kingston is the latest star to "lose" his chain

According to TMZ.com, Sean Kingston's $500,000 chain was stolen when his sister mailed to his jeweler. The packaged arrived to the jeweler a day late and empty. The star's sister mailed it through FedEx and unfortunately only insured it for $500.

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department is now investigating the theft.

Kanye West not facing felony

Los Angeles officials on Friday declined to press felony charges against rap singer Kanye West stemming from his arrest after a scuffle with photographers at Los Angeles International Airport this month.

West, however, could face a lesser charge of a misdemeanor crime, said Frank Mateljan, spokesman for the L.A. City Attorney's Office.

The Grammy winner was arrested at the airport on September 11 after rushing at a photographer and grabbing his camera. In the ensuing struggle, West threw the camera to the ground.

West, 31, was booked on suspicion of felony vandalism and released on bail the same day.

The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, which handles felony cases, has referred the case to the City Attorney's Office, which handles misdemeanor prosecutions, Mateljan said.

"We're in the process of reviewing the case that was sent to us, I don't anticipate a decision until sometime next week," he said.

Update: Busta Rocks UK Stage After UK Court Battles

He had to win a High Court battle to get there - but last night American rapper Busta Rhymes finally managed to take to the stage in London.

Thousands of fans turned up at the Royal Albert Hall to see the star appear at a charity gig after he was held for 12 hours under armed guard at London City Airport. Busta Rhymes, real name Trevor George Smith Jr, was detained on Thursday over allegations he had "unresolved convictions in the USA", concert promoter Orange said. The 36-year-old rapper went to the High Court and won the right to appear at the Orange RockCorps show at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

Before the final decision, Busta's solicitor Phillip Troot told Sky News he believed the detention was "political primarily". He stressed that a Secretary of State should not be involved in the case because "it should be the immigration officer's decision". Mr Justice Flaux ordered Rhymes's immediate release on Thursday after hearing he had been kept in a room measuring 7ft by 8ft under the eyes of five armed police officers. He was given bail to stay overnight at his hotel, but denied the right to perform. Rhymes, had already been allowed entry to the UK twice this year, in May and August, and has a valid work permit for the concert for 5,000 charity volunteers.

His counsel, Amanda Weston, had argued on Thursday that the basis on which Rhymes was refused entry was incorrect. She insisted the offenses, of which he had been convicted in the US, constituted "misdemeanors" under New York criminal law rather than "felonies". "The criminal convictions (of assault and drink driving) are relatively minor and the public benefit of this man appearing is immense," Busta's solicitor Phillip Troot added.

At the High Court, Mr Justice Stadlen emphasised the extraordinary nature of the case and stressed that he was acting so as not to disappoint the thousands of fans who, even as he was giving his judgment, were heading to the Royal Albert Hall.

The final ruling was made little more than an hour before the gig's scheduled starting time of 7pm.

After the decision Busta Rhymes said, "I came to the UK to perform for all of the Orange RockCorps volunteers who put in time in their community and that's what I'm going to do. I am here officially in the UK, and thanks to all parties involved hopefully I will be able to put on an incredible show for the kids."

"It was absolutely incredible after everything Busta had been through," a RockCorps spokesman said. "The atmosphere was electric, people were jumping up and down. They were more emotionally connected to this gig because they had earned their tickets through volunteering."

Buckshot Hospitalized Due to Seizures

Buckshot hospitalized after experiencing seizures, NY Blackmoon reunion show cancelled

Buckshot, of the legendary hip hop group Blackmoon. was forced to seek emergency medical treatment after returning from a tour in Europe. He is currently in a stable condition in a New York hospital.

Due to Buckshot's condition the rap trio has been forced to reschedule a highly anticipated reunion concert in New York on Friday (Sep 26th).

A statement from his record label Duck Down Records reads, "While of course we are disappointed to have to reschedule a sold out show, obviously nothing takes precedent over Buckshot's health. If he could walk out of that hospital on his own right now I know he would have been on that stage. He was truly looking forward to this night."

The show has been rescheduled for November 11th and disappointed fans have been offered refunds.

In a recent interview 50 Cent took a few jabs at Jay Z by questioning his relevancy and his net worth. 50 says, "I'm a big fan of Jay-Z, but outside of the States and hip-hop circles, no one really knew who he was until he married Beyonce."

Jay-Z, wed the Bootylicious beauty in April and 50 Cent claims it was their marriage - not the rap mogul's music – that made him a star on the international scene.

The 2008 Forbes Cash King also questioned Jay-Z's reported $1 billion fortune, saying "I don't believe he's worth that much! It's all been exaggerated. I'm comfortable. I don't want for anything so I'm not in a race."

According to Forbes, 50 Cent made $150 million last year, compared to Jay-Z's $82 million, which made him second on the list.

50 gets "Key to the City" in Bridgeport, Connecticut

In related news 50 Cent will be honored with a Key to the City in his hometown, Bridgeport, Connecticut. A ceremony will take place on Oct. 12, which will officially be known as Curtis Jackson Day.

Busta is free but awaits decision on whether he can stay in the UK

Busta Rhymes, who spent his day yesterday in a room measuring 7ft by 8ft under the eyes of five armed police officers, was finally freed after Mr Justice Flaux, who earlier granted an injunction by telephone to prevent Busta from being returned to Amsterdam, heard the conditions the rapper was being subjected to and ruled that it was arguable that Busta's detention was unlawful.

In his ruling the judge said, "It seems to me that it is difficult to see upon what basis the temporary admission of the claimant or his temporary release into the jurisdiction has been refused". In all the circumstances it seems to me that he is entitled to an order that he be released forthwith or alternatively is entitled to bail."

As we reported yesterday, Bustra arrived in the UK in advance of his scheduled performance at the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow for a benefit concert organized by Rock Corps. The 36-year-old rapper was held despite having a work permit to play at the Orange RockCorps gig at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has previously visited the UK twice this year.

"A High Court judge ordered his release this evening. He has been allowed entry into the UK having been detained all day at London City Airport," said a spokeswoman for concert organizers RockCorps. She said his appearance at the event would depend on the outcome of a judicial review due to be held on Friday. "We're very hopeful he'll be playing the show," she added. The organization enlisted the services of Ludacris to replace Busta if he is not allowed to perform..

A hearing is likely to take place today (9/26) in which Busta’s legal team will challenge the UK government’s attempt to refuse him entry, reports the Associated Press.

Stephen Greene, co-founder of RockCorps, said: "We're shocked at this sequence of events and this treatment of Busta.

"Orange RockCorps has inspired thousands of young Brits to help their community, get involved and make a real difference through a love of music. He has the necessary work permit and has been in the country twice already this year, so we're a little puzzled that a question mark is now being placed over his ability to enter the country to perform to volunteers," said Greene.

The Home Office said previous criminal convictions and a person's character and conduct were assessed before an individual was allowed into the country.

Busta has never served any time in prison, and has completed community service for his convictions.

Breaking News: Rapper Rhymes is denied entry and detained at UK airport

Rapper Busta Rhymes is being detained at London's City Airport after he is refused entry to the UK because of "unresolved convictions" in the US.

Busta Rhymes arrived in the UK early this morning to perform at a charity gig on Friday (9/26) but immigration officials barred him from entering the country. They tried to immediately deport him and place him on a flight back to Amsterdam but Rhymes' lawyer obtained an injunction from the UK courts.

The rapper is now being held while officials decide whether to let him enter the UK, the event's organizer said in a statement.

"We are selective about who we let into the UK and will oppose the entry to the UK of people who have been found guilty of serious criminal offences abroad," a UK Borders Agency spokeswoman said. "It's important that people play by the rules and earn the right to stay," she added.

Busta was scheduled to play at Orange RockCorps. The free concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London was organized for fans who committed four hours volunteering in community projects. The concert also features R&B star John Legend and rock bands Feeder, The Automatic and Guillemots.

In a statement, Stephen Greene of RockCorps said, "The star arrived at the airport at 7:26 this morning and was denied entry. His lawyer, Philip Trott, intervened and presented papers in support of Busta's case for entry. The immigration authorities repeated he was to be denied entry and made arrangements to fly him back to Amsterdam on a flight at 9:30. Contact was made with the duty High Court judge, Mr Justice Flaux, who granted an injunction at 8:58 to prevent Busta being returned to Amsterdam. He is currently detained pending a decision on temporary admission by the immigration officer. Documents are being prepared to apply for judicial review as early as possible today." the statement reads.

The organizer of the event says he's "shocked at this sequence of events and this treatment of Busta". He added, "He has the necessary work-permit and has been in the country twice already this year, so we're a little puzzled that a question mark is now being placed over his ability to enter the country to perform to volunteers."

Busta was allowed into the UK to launch the event on August 17th. He promoted the event by helping to pick up litter in London. He also performed at the Midnight Madness basketball event in the city.

Ludacris is flying in from the US to replace Busta Rhymes on the bill if necessary, Mr Greene added.

Ludacris' mansion ravished by fire, pool house destroyed

The $2.8 million mansion of three-time Grammy Award-winning rapper and actor, Ludacris was the scene of a fire just hours ago. Authorities say the fire destroyed a pool house at the home outside Atlanta.

Luckily no one was hurt in the blaze. Ludacris, whose real name is Christopher Bridges, was out of town at the time of the Wednesday night fire. Fulton County Fire Department spokesman Gregory Chambers says a relative was in the basement of the main residence when the fire started and was not injured.

Chambers says the fire was put out within 30 minutes but destroyed the pool house, which he says is larger than most homes.

The fire was being investigated but the cause was not immediately identified.

Ludacris bought the 10,031 sq. ft. home in January 2003 for $2,800,000.

Ludacris was just inducted into Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Atlanta on Saturday (Sept. 20) and is set to co-star in "Max Payne" with Mark Wahlberg. The movie is based on the hugely popular video game of the same name and will hit theaters on October 17th.

No 50 Cent vs Kanye West rematch, Kanye moves up release date

There will not be another sales showdown between 50 Cent and Kanye West. Yesterday, via his blog, Kanye West announced that he is moving up his album's release date to November. In the short post he wrote:

"808s & Heartbreak coming soon...I CHANGED MY ALBUM TO NOVEMBER SOMETHING CAUSE I FINISHED THE ALBUM AND I FELT LIKE IT.. I WANT YALL TO HEAR IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE"

The blog entry included a picture of Young Jeezy and Kanye West in the studio, so I guess we can expect a track featuring the two artists.

Benzino Speaks About Kim Osario, Plus What She Really Got From The Lawsuit

Benzino speaks about Kim Osario in radio interview says she's "lost respect"

Ray "Benzino" Scott recently spoke to Philadelphia radio personality Kendra G about Kim Osorio's tell-all book. The book chronicles her tenure as editor-in-chief of The Source magazine. In the book and in interviews promoting the book Kim Osario has made some disparaging remarks about Benzino and blames his beef with Eminem as the principle reason for the magazine's demise and losing its integrity.

In a recent interview with Philly's Kendra G., Benzino breaks his silence and discusses his feelings towards Kim Osario (he pronounces it, Kim O-Sorry-Hoe) and her book. He also discusses his beef with Eminem and his relationship with 50 Cent.

When asked if he read the book and whether it's true or not, he said he's read excerpts on the internet and doesn't confirm or deny any of the allegations in the book.

"What she said in her book, whether it's true or not ... she was up there for a number of years, so I'm sure some of it may have been ... Everything is like opinionized, whereas the story could of been true, but true from her way. It might of been a different opinion is somebody else's eyes," he said.

"I got thick skin. Can't ... nobody say on a book or the internet bother me," Benzino adds "...I feel like, now, she's lost a lot of respect in the journalism world, as well as women, because you got to remember, she was suing us for sexual harassment on behalf of women everywhere and women's rights and to stick up for the integrity of women in the work place, and then admits to 'I'm licking 50 Cent's balls.' It's like which one is it gonna be?"

Benzino goes on to say, "Kim made over $130,000 a year at The Source is the most she's ever made or will ever make at a job, we gave her an incredible opportunity she was the first female editor-in-chief ... she had a real big position, me and Dave trusted her judgement on a lot of things and I guess it just didn't work out" and last effort to cash in.

"We live in a world, now, where people, you know what I'm saying, feel like they can make a quick buck writing a book. I don't think her book is really doing that good, but I guess whatever," said Benzino.

When asked if he and Kim are friends he says, "Oh hell no, no, no. Why would I be a friend to someone I gave a great opportunity (to) for them to try to turn around and you know what I'm saying, disrespect me in books and on the internet and everything, that's not friendship, that's not loyalty". When asked if they could ever sit down and talk again he says, "Na, I mean for what, there's no reason for me to have a relationship with her, Kim really is irrelevant, I don't see what the point is, this is Kim's last hoorah. You won't hear about Kim after this book, after this book nonsense goes away," he added.

When asked about the Eminem beef he said he never met Eminem and he went at him to get some things off his chest but it was "blown out of proportion".

As far as the highly-publicized beef with Eminem that Osorio gives some insight on in her book, Benzino says it's done and over with, but highly doubts Em would ever sit down with him ever again.

In related news, recently mediatakeout.com reported that Kim Osario is lying about the $7 million pay out she keeps claiming she received from The Source lawsuit is and she actually only received $641,000 which after the attorney's fees and taxes were deducted she's lucky if she got $120,000.

They also reported that she may have perjured herself when she denied sleeping with any rappers during the lawsuit and now writes in her book about sleeping with 50 Cent and Nas.

VH1 Says "Fight The Power" is Greatest of All Time

VH1 says Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" is the Greatest Hip Hop Song Ever

VH1 has compiled its list of the 100 greatest hip-hop songs, and Public Enemy's black power anthem "Fight the Power" tops the list.

The cable network will count down its list in series of shows starting Monday. At No. 2 is the Sugar Hill Gang's groundbreaking song, "Rapper's Delight," followed by Dr. Dre's "Nuthin but a 'G' Thang" at No. 3. Run-D.M.C.'s "Walk This Way" with Aerosmith and Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five's "The Message" round out the top five.

Salt 'N Pepa was the only female act in the top 10, with their early hit "Push It." Two of rap's biggest names — Jay-Z and Eminem — didn't make the top 10, though they are in the top 20.

Other acts on the list include the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Biz Markie, Black Sheep and J.J. Fad.

The list comes as VH1 prepares to honor the pioneers in rap once again as part of its annual Hip-Hop Honors show, which this year celebrates Slick Rick, De La Soul, Cypress Hill, Naughty by Nature and Too Short. That show airs Oct. 6.
